The countdown to 70k

Last weekend was my first ride in awhile with the Veredes MTB mountain biking group. The ride was to inaugurate the new specialty bike shop owned by Jorge Luis, one of the group members. Now this was truly bonito-suavecito not like last time.

We rode from Managua to the store in Masaya, picking up riders along the way like we were a big gang of neighborhood kids. In Masaya the trail was semi-technical and Javier stuck with me as a sort of personal trainer for gears. They all love to teach the other riders how to maximize biking efficiency to put it in nerd. And they like everyone to stay encouraged so this post is dedicated to Javier, gracias amigo! The final distance count: 42 miles!

After the Masaya ride Jorge Luis had Nica breakfast for everyone with Gallo Pinto, sausages, eggs and fresh juice. A priest even came by to bless the place! Que Nica :)

Tomorrow morning at 5:30am we're riding again but this time it's a race. The 100k ride is too out of control for us casual riders but 70k is just our speec. Wish me, Erica, Andy and Phil lots of luck. Now I'm going to go eat some carbs ... lots and lots of carbs.
